If you’ve visited us in-store or online lately, you might wonder about a few new THC alternatives from the Mellow Fellow kitchen. This week we’re breaking down PHC, a cannabinoid derived from Delta 9 acetate. Read on to learn more.
What is the PHC cannabinoid?
PHC (para-hydroxycannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is structurally similar to THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol), the primary psychoactive compound found in cannabis, and may have similar effects on the body. However, research on PHC is limited, and more studies are needed to understand its potential medical benefits and risks.
However, what we do know is THC is derived and synthesized from Delta-9 THC-A. It’s manufactured in a process that takes the acetate molecule and allows the body to metabolize it inside, which is an amazing scientific feat considering that acetate molecules typically need to be heated up through combustion or vaporizarion to become active within the body. That said, once you eat PHC, it basically turns into regular old THC and works like the normal stuff.
However, it might be more potent. Some people claim PHC affects people for up to 8 hours.
How does PHC Work?
PHC (para-hydroxycannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, and it is structurally similar to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the primary psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Like other cannabinoids, it is thought to work by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a network of receptors and neurotransmitters that play a role in regulating various physiological processes.
The ECS has two main receptors, CB1 and CB2, which are activated by cannabinoids. CB1 receptors are primarily found in the central nervous system and are thought to be responsible for the psychoactive effects of THC. CB2 receptors, on the other hand, are primarily found in the immune system and are thought to be involved in regulating inflammation and pain.
PHC is thought to interact with both CB1 and CB2 receptors, although its exact mechanism of action is not well understood. It is also thought to be metabolized by the body to form THC, which may explain its potential psychoactive effects.
Potential Effects and Benefits of PHC
Based on what is currently known, PHC is thought to have similar effects on the body as THC. Due to its similarities, it may offer many of the same benefits as THC, such as pain relief or as a sleep aid.
Potential effects of PHC include:
- Psychoactive effects: Like THC, PHC may produce a “high” or altered state of consciousness when consumed in high doses.
- Pain relief: PHC may interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) to regulate pain and inflammation, and may have potential as a pain reliever.
- Anxiety and depression relief: PHC may have anxiolytic and antidepressant effects.
It’s important to note that more research is needed to confirm these effects and determine the appropriate dosage and administration of PHC for medical use. As with any drug, the effects of PHC can vary depending on the individual, the dose, and the method of administration. It is not recommended to use PHC without the guidance of a medical professional. Also keep in mind that cannabis is still illegal in many places, and its use is regulated by the government.
