Cannabinoids and terpenes are discovered every day! Recently, along with a handful of other cannabinoids, scientists discovered THC-JD. In this guide, learn everything there is to know about THC-JD, including what it is, some of its potential effects, and how you can try some for yourself.

What is THC-JD?

THC-JD is a phytocannabinoid, which means that it’s a rare, naturally occurring cannabinoid found in both hemp and cannabis. While it’s scarce in nature, scientists have recently isolated it and begun exploring its effects.

Unlike delta cannabinoids, like delta-8 and delta-10, which are made from either separating or conjoining different cannabinoids, this naturally occurring phytocannabinoid is more potent than THC since it has a couple of extra carbon chains. While delta-9 THC has five carbon sidechains, THC-JD has 8, making it up to 19 times more potent than THC.

One interesting thing about it is that it seems to be more effective in the presence of other cannabinoids. More specifically, delta-8 THC, which is part of the reason that you see it in hemp products alongside it. However, the side effects are slightly different when each is enjoyed separately.

Where does THC-JD come from?

THCjd is a phytocannabinoid, which means that it can be found naturally in cannabis and hemp. However, it appears naturally in very tiny concentrations, so most THCjd products you see on the shelves at your favorite hemp store are usually synthesized in a lab.

While THCjd doesn’t need to be chemically altered outside of the process necessary to extract THC, it’s found in such limited quantities that the more economical choice for making it is to synthesize it from other natural cannabinoids found in hemp.

Potential effects and benefits of THC-JD

The process of extracting THCjd is still pretty new. With that said, THCjd hasn’t been researched practically at all. However, we do have a few anecdotal reports that claim it may be beneficial in some of the same ways that THC is. THC-JD might have some similar, couch-locking effects that THC and CBN offers.

That’s part of the reason you’ll find it alongside delta-8 THC. It seems to offer pretty mellow, body-dominant effects. However, it does still get you high. In fact, it may even get you higher than THC because of its extra carbon sidechains.

Much like THC, THCjd offers a euphoric and uplifting cerebral effect that might make you feel lightheaded and relaxed. However, evidence also suggests that it might make your reflexes slower. With that said, you’ll want to avoid driving a car or operating other heavy machinery while exploring THCjd.

Is THC-JD safe?

There are practically no studies on THCjd yet, so it’s still unsure if THCjd is safe for long-term use. However, its similarities to THC indicate that it might be safe. But for your safety, we recommend talking to your doctor and doing your independent research before trying THCjd or any other natural or synthetic THC alternative.

Another thing to consider is that THCjd will cause you to fail a drug test at work since it’s molecularly similar to THC and is metabolized by the body in the same ways. You should stop using THCjd 30 days before a drug test and avoid it altogether if you deal with random drug testing.

Lastly, since THCjd is up to 19 times more potent than delta-9 THC, you’ll want to be careful not to overdo it. Always start with a low dose and work your way up until you achieve your desired effects. After all, you don’t want to learn your limits the hard way.

Is THC-JD legal?

THC-JD is in a legal gray area. According to the 2018 US Farm Bill, hemp and the cannabinoids that are derived from it are legal as long as they contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC. Since THC-JD is hemp-derived, it’s technically legal.

However, that might change. For one thing, several states have passed laws to ban hemp-derived cannabinoids that share similarities to THC, and others have banned hemp-derived cannabinoids that can be synthesized in a lab. You should always double-check the laws in your area to see if THC-JD and other hemp-derived cannabinoids are legal in your area before you order it (or other THC alternatives) online.
